Pottery Barn Knock-Off Wall Decor

Alright, so you already know from the reveal or the details post that our newly renovated master bathroom was in need of some accessories.

One of the things it really needed was some wall art for over the toilet, which is basically the only available wall for decor.  (The other main wall will have our towel hooks on it.)

So I went looking for wall art, and Pottery Barn was a good place to start.  I found these, which I loved, for I think $46.  Of course, I went back to check the price and they are “no longer available.” (I think that means PB’s stencil wore out and they had to run to Hobby Lobby for a new one…)

But $46 for those?  Pshaw.  I decided I could make them instead, for almost nothing.

Here’s how I did it:

I had leftover white duck cloth from the laundry area organizer saga, which I stained with leftover coffee.

I had a piece of leftover trim in the basement which I cut to size with a miter box and stained with one coat of stain leftover from refinishing the buffet.

Hmm, I guess I forgot to take a picture of that step. 

I bought a fern stencil from Hobby Lobby for …..not much?

I used masking tape on the back edges of the canvas, and then I pulled a few threads out along each side to fray the fabric.  The masking tape *should* prevent the fabric from fraying any further on its own.

I stenciled the leaves onto the stained canvas using old paint testers leftover from picking our kitchen paint color.

I used a staple gun to attach the wooden ‘frame’ pieces to the canvas, and to attach some twine for hanging.

And then I hung them up.

Super easy.  Super cheap.  Super cute in our new bathroom!
