Master Bath Renovation Reveal

Master bath 1

Finally, the master bath is done!

To recap where we started, the master bathroom used to be a single vanity, tub-with-vinyl-surround, exact replica of the hall bathroom.  It had adhesive tile on the floor, an orange-oak vanity, and a few updated elements like a curved shower rod and newish light fixture.  Generally, it was pretty small.

But….the master bedroom was big….and it conveniently had about 36 square feet of unneeded space.

Extra space
So what did we do?

We moved the wall separating the closet and bath from the bedroom, further into the bedroom by 3 feet.  (The colored area above is the old layout.)

With the new bathroom space, we rotated the “tub” into the new area and made it a large shower.  Then we moved the toilet further into the corner, where the tub had been.  And finally, we expanded the vanity into the space where the toilet had been.

This project was a combination of DIY and help from contractors.  We started by doing the demolition ourselves.

Demolition
Contractors framed and drywalled the new wall, roughed in a couple of new electrical items, and modified the plumbing.  We also had to modify some heat registers, so the “heat man” was called to do that.

We handled the priming and painting, and the vanity was installed by the cabinet maker.

Then we tiled the floor and the shower.
